Digital Music Corp MX-8 MIDI patchbay/processor 240vAC (original built-in PSU) S/No: 7814 Condition: Good
Manual available here Review here
What a beast this is! This unit was manufactured in October 1989 and is working fine. Running V1.41 firmware. RAM button cell tested at 3v.
It’s a patchbay – 6 inputs into 8 outputs.
It has 50 ‘setup’ memories which can be recalled from the front panel – or via MIDI program Change.
It can merge any two inputs into any output.
It has 2 MIDI processors (A & B) which can each:-
- Operate on any one or all channels
- Filter most of the MIDI functions
- Act as a Compander for Note velocity
- Define up to 4 ‘zones’ using note and channel mapping
- 12 step transposition
- (Note) Velocity cross switch to different channel
- Channel shift: Offset (all) or re-assign
- Digital delay (for notes)
- Any MIDI channel can be selected for ‘Program Change’ commands (i.e. recall an MX-8 setup)
It can send ‘Patch Chain’ program changes through selected outputs whenever a MX-8 setup is changed
And if that wasn’t enough, it automatically performs dynamic filtering (during merge operations for example), thinning out aftertouch and pitch bend commands to prevent possible buffer overload.
It appears to be fully working. I have tested the basic patchbay, merge, filter, transposition, channel re-assign and digital delay functions.
